What is Gunny's Paste?
Gunny's Paste is the name given to a century old recipe for a concoction applied to military guns to protect the wood and give it a non glossy water resistant finish. Gunny's Paste is just the finish you need to enhance your Curios & Relics collectables.
Gunny's Paste is a mixture of equal parts of boiled linseed oil, turpentine, and beeswax. People have been making the home made variety for years. Recipes might vary depending on who you talk to and what they put in it. I have found that equal portions work the best.
Now you ask me why should I buy Gunny's Paste when I can obtain the ingredients and make it myself? Simply because to buy everything you need to make it yourself will cost you $15 to $20 dollars or more and then there is the mess of mixing it up and finding a suitable container to put it in. And lets not forget the heck your going to catch from your wife for stinking up the kitchen and messing up her pan.
As you know there are dozens of brands of boiled linseed oil and turpentine on the market. I've spent 30 years refinishing gunstocks in my private collection and I've got a notion of what looks good and what doesn't.
